Clara Marie Steffen Basten, the daughter of John and
Regina Steffen, was born June 22, 1893 at
Lattnerville, and died July 24, 1967 at Oelwein, Iowa.

She and Mathew Basten were married June 7, 1910
at Lattnerville. They had 12 children.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 27, at
Sacred Heart Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Marvin
Salz officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
Hintz Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Aaron Basten, Michael
Bellendier, Thomas John Schroeder, James Basten Jr.,
Thomas King and Robert Mason.

Mrs. Basten is survived by two sons, Leo Basten of
Cedar Rapids and James Basten, Edgewood; nine
daughters; Eleanor, Mrs. Al Cohn and Mrs. Mildred
King of Pomona, Calif; Mrs. Myrna Arthur, Mountclair,
Calif.; Dorothy, Mrs. Milton Syverson, Paramount, Calif.;
Agnes, Mrs. John Blair, Virginia City, Nev.; Emily, Mrs.
Beryl Mason, Marion; Madalyn, Mrs. Virgil Schroeder,
Jacqueline, Mrs. Andrew Bellendier and Mavis, Mrs.
Jerome, Bellendier all of Oelwein. Thirty-three grand-
children, 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Amanda
Bradfield, Oelwein, and two brothers, Charles Steffen,
Oelwein and Rudolph Steffen, Graf, also survive.

Her husband Mathew and a son Harold preceded her
in death.
