Lloyd R. Butler 1906-1971

Lloyd Richard Butler, the son of Joseph Lester
Butler and Elizabeth Rundle Butler, was born
August 25, 1906 at Oelwein. He grew up in this
community and graduated from the Oelwein
Community High School. He attended the
Oelwein Business College.

He was married to Lois Dilliner July 22, 1929 in
DesMoines. The couple made their home in
Oelwein.

Butler owned and operated the Butler Coal Co.
for many years, and later the Butler store. He
retired from business in 1967.

He had been a member of Grace United Methodist
Church for fifty-one years and had been a member
of the Homebuilders Class. He was a member of the
Masonic Blue Lodge, the Shriners and the Eastern
Star. He had also been a member of the Elks and
Lion's International Club.

Butler died Sunday morning, May 16, 1971 at his
home in Scottsdale. He is survived by his wife, Lois,
one daughter, Linda, Mrs. Don Jensen of Oelwein, two
grandchildren, Kendall and Kimberly Jensen, one
sister, Ethel, Mrs. Raymond Meyer of Oelwein, as well
as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, Lyle.

Services were held Thursday, May 20, 1971 at the
Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein, at 2 pm.
The Rev. Warren Paige officiated and Mrs. Sam Smith
was at the organ.

Casket bearers were Robert Richards, Glen Johnston,
Ollie Scholz, Robert McIntosh, Church Williams and
Lyle Pleshek. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery,
Oelwein.
