Phoebe Jan Housden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
George W. Housden was born August 9, 1861 at
Millersburg, Iowa and passed away at her home
at 29 1/2 West Charles street June 13, 1927 at
the age of 65 years, ten months and four days.
At the age of three years she moved here with
her parents and made this community and vicinity
her home since. In July 1879 she was united in
marriage to M. V. Freeman, who passed to the
great beyond October 15, 1904. To this union
two daughters were born, Mrs. Nellie Barber and
Mrs. Mertle Rhine, who reside in Oelwein. On
October 1, 1919 she was united in marriage to
George W. Brownell, who preceded her in death
in 1921. One sister Mrs. Maggie Powers and one
brother George W. Housden, also preceded her in
death. She leaves to mourn her loss besides her
two daughters and one grandchild, one brother
E. K. Housden of Waterloo, one sister Mrs. Vina
Hillman of Wilmington, Cal., two half-sisters Mrs.
Frank Rand and Mrs. Ola Long of Milwaukee, Wis;
and several nieces and nephews and a host of
friends to mourn her death. The funeral services
were held yesterday afternoon at the Christian
church conducted by Rev. Irvin E. Wade and
burial was in Oakdale cemetery. Those attending
from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Hillman,
of Wilmington, Calif; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rand of
Milwaukee, Wis; Frank Powers, Mrs. E. K. Housden,
Mrs. Earl Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Housden of
Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Freeman of
Bryantsburg; Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Hackett of Stanley.
