William Borland 1847 - 1915

William Borland was born in Canada, March 29, 1847.
When about four years if age he came to Iowa with his
parents and resided in Fayette and Buchanan counties
nearly all the years since. When a young man he was
united in marriage to Nancy Jane Hotchkiss and there
were eleven children born to the union. Four years ago
the family moved to Tacoma, Washington and came
back on a visit last October in the hopes that his health
would improve in Iowa. Four weeks ago he was taken
very ill from what proved to be cancer of the stomach
and was taken to the City hospital for treatment. He
passed away Sunday, January 24. The body was taken to
the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. P. Smith, from where
short services were held Tuesday morning at 8:30
conducted by Dr. Kilgore, of the Baptist church. The
body was taken to West Union for interment. Besides the
wife and mother the following children are left to mourn
his passing ---- Mrs. J. P. Smith and Mrs. F. W. Smith of
Oelwein; John Borland of West Union; Mrs. G. H. Johnston
of Boise City, Idaho; Mrs. Miflen, William Borland Jr., Hugh,
Hazel and George Borland, of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs.
Jennie Camp of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mrs. Harry Crouch
of Omaha, Nebraska. The family have the sympathy of
many friends in the loss of a kind husband and father.
