Martin G. Fels 1859 - 1918

Martin G. Fels died Monday night at 8 o'clock at
the family residence after a short illness. Mr. Fels
had been in poor health the past year, having
been a sufferer from Diabetis, but was up and
about until Wednesday of last week.

Martin G. Fels was born in Dubuque February 1,
1859 and died at his late home September 16,
1918, aged 59 years, 7 months and 16 days. He
received his education in the public school at
Auburn, Iowa and has made his home near there
ever since.

Mr. Fels was married November 26, 1884 to Addie
Soward; five children having been born to them, of
whom two are living, Carl H. and Roy S., also an
adopted daughter Vergie E. Roy is a member of
Co. E 16th U. S. Infantry and is in France.

Mr. Fels has been prominent politically, having
been a supervisor of Fayette Coounty for the past
three years, was chairman of the Republican township
commitee for twenty or thirty years and township
clerk for two years. He was treasurer of the
independent school district for fifteen years and a
director of the Fayette Co. Agricultural Society for five
years.

News was received hero Tuesday of
the death on Monday, Sept. I6th, of
Martin Fels, a resident of West Union,
and prominent citizen of the county.
Mr Fels was chairman of the county
board of supervisors, and for years
prior to taking up his residence In
West Union was a farmer In Auburn
township. He was the owner of Falling
Spring park. Mr. Fels was prominent
In political matters In the county
and a man of Influence in the community.
