Funeral services were held for Ernest Eden, age, 76, Thursday, July 28, 1988 at St.John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa. Burial was in the Cass Township Cemetery at Strawberry Point, Iowa. The Rev. John Wogsland officiated. His grandchildren were the pallbearers: Brad Postel, Jill Postel, Lisa Hamlett, Matthew Hamlett, Tom Hamlett, Mark Hamlett, and Neal Hamlett.

Ernest G. Eden was born June 11, 1912 at home in rural Fayette County, west of Strawberry Point, Iowa to Ed and Etta (Shaffer) Eden. He was baptized June 30, 1912 and confirmed by Reverend Christopher Rembold at St.John Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa on April 10, 1927. He was an active member of the church at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Lucille DeWitte at Maynard, Iowa on July 23, 1934. Flowers adorned the altar of St.John Lutheran Church on July 24, 1988 in commemoration of their 54th Wedding Anniversary. Two children, Joan and Myrna, were born to this union. Ernest farmed with his dad then moved to Davenport so Joan could attend the School for the Deaf. He worked for the Rock Island Arsenal, tested John Deere equipment and farmed near Rapid City, Illinois. He and his family moved back to the Arlington community in 1949 and lived on the family farm south of town. He retired in 1980, then he and Lucy moved to Arlington. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, card playing, and woodworking.

In mid-May he suffered a stroke. After hospitalization, he became a resident at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point for a few weeks. He died Monday, July 25, 1988 at the Delaware County Memorial Hospital at Manchester, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Donald and one grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy of Arlington, Iowa; 2 daughters, Joan (Mrs. Harold) Postel of Anamosa, Iowa and Myrna (Mrs. Dale) Jones of Marshall, Wisconsin; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anne (Mrs. Fred) Burrack of Arlington, Iowa.
