Robert Lavern Miner, age 54, of Independence, Iowa died Friday, July 29, 1988 at University Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa of lymphoma cancer. He was born December 10, 1933 at Randalia, Iowa, the son of Warren "Jack" Miner and Mildred E.(Voelker) Miner. He graduated from Randalia High School in 1951 and Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa in 1955. On August 13, 1955 he was united in marriage to Donna Irene Moody at Cherry Mound Church in Allamakee County, Iowa. The past 23 years he has been an instructor for the Jesup Community School District, teaching math and driver education.

Miner was a member of St.John's Catholic Church of Independence, Iowa. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4332 of Independence, the National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, Jesup Education Association (Past President), Iowa Association of Safety Educators, a life member of Independence fireman, and an active member of the Iowa High School Athletic Officials Association and football referee.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 1 at 10:30 at St.John's Catholic Church, Independence with Father James J. Duster as celebrant. Acolytes were Rod Miner, Kevin Hitchens, and Ron Cooper. Honorary casket bearers were Robert Richard, Glenn Maynard, Robert H. Hall, Glen Lorenz, Kenneth White, Rex Jones, Mike Sinram, Larry Baldwin, Leland Jesse, Jeff Gearhart, David Steuben, Thomas Ciesielski, Robert Tekippe, Paul Humeston, and Ed Lumdahl. Casket bearers were Ken Miner, Duane Miner, Donald Miner, Vernie Kirkendall, and Dick Loughren. Burial was in the St.John's Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.

Robert is survived by his wife, Donna of Independence; one son, Dr. Thomas Miner of Columbus, Georgia; 3 daughters, Janet, Mrs. James Orr of Rowley, Iowa, Bobbi, Mrs. Randy Schell of Worthington, Iowa, Karen, Mrs. Robert Schumacher of Jesup, Iowa; six grandchildren; 4 brothers, Kenneth Miner of Fayette, Iowa, Duane Miner and Gerald Miner, both of Sumner, Iowa, and Donald Miner of Ankeny, Iowa; two sisters, Barbara, Mrs. Gordon Lauer of West Union, Iowa and Shirley, Mrs. Charles Hegseth of Waucoma, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father. His mother passed away on Saturday, July 30, 1988, just one day after Robert's death. Her services took place on Tuesday, August 2, 1988 in Fayette, Iowa.
