Funeral services for Josephine L. Schmelzer, age 79, of Red Wing, Minnesota were held Tuesday August 2 at 11 a.m. at Church of St.Joseph, Red Wing, Minnesota with arrangements by Bodelson Funeral Home.

Josephine Schmelzer was born August 7, 1908 in Elgin, Iowa to Halvor and Georgia Blockhus. She attended rural Fayette County schools and was married to Joseph Schmelzer on September 4, 1926 at West Union, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa until 1956 when they moved to the Red Wing area. They retired in 1960. Her husband died April 25, 1987.

Josephine died at Haven Health Center, Red Wing, Minnesota on Saturday, July 30, 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Surviving include two sons, Joseph Schmelzer, Jr. of Red Wing, Minnesota and Richard Schmelzer of Vinton, Iowa; 2 daughters, Georgie Ann, Mrs. L.M. Riley of Fayette, Iowa and Janice, Mrs. Allan Leonard of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; 2 sisters, Helen, Mrs. Raymond Drewes, West Union, Iowa, and Clara Wittenhagen, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
