Funeral services for Mathilda Baumler, 90, were held at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, Iowa at 11 a.m. Tuesday February 14, 1989. Burial was in St. Luke's Cemetery in St. Lucas. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were grandsons, Donald Baumler, Conrad Baumler, James Baumler, Rick Throndson, David Baumler, and Steve Baumler. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Baumler, Jeff Guenther and Darin Wurzer.

Mathilda was born October 28, 1898 in Festina, Iowa to Clem and Anna (Lechtenberg) Scholbrock. On May 10, 1921 she married Carl Baumler and they lived in the St.Lucas area all of their married life. Mathilda died Friday, February 10, 1989 at the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, Iowa where she had been a resident for about eight years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965 and two sons, Donald in infancy and Neil in 1975.

Surviving are three daughters, Luann Throndson of Lawler, Iowa, Colleen Guenther and Norma Jean Wurzer, both of West Union, Iowa; five sons, Reynold and Melvin, both of West Union, Cyril of Calmar, Iowa, Gerald of Waucoma, Iowa and Irenus Baumler of Waukon, Iowa; two brothers, Clem Scholbrock of Cresco, Iowa and Albert Scholbrock of Waucoma, Iowa; two sisters, Louise Reicks of Cresco, Iowa and Anna Elpert of Rochester, Minnesota. Also surviving are 46 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
