Funeral services for Nellie G. King, 83, were held Friday January 27, 1989 at the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Hazleton Cemetery, Hazleton, Iowa. Scott Hall officiated in the service and pallbearers were Bruce Fliehler, Doug Fliehler, Ray Hardin, Larry Dallenbach, LaVern Davis, and Peter Bachtell.

Nellie G. King was born January 2, 1906 in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Pearl (Weed) Bird. She attended country school near her home. On February 11, 1928 she was united in marriage to Voyle John King at Fairbank. The couple farmed at Hazleton, Stanley, Aurora, and Lamont for many years. Her husband died August 3, 1960 at Lamont, Iowa.

She worked as a cook at the Lamont School, Starmont School, Pine Lodge, and the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa. In 1977 she moved from her farm near Lamont to Arlington where she lived until her death. Nellie King was active in the Church of Christ at Arlington and was involved with the Senior Citizens organization. She died Tuesday morning, January 24, 1989 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, Iowa as the result of an accident near Volga, Iowa.

Survivors include one son, Clinton of Masonville, Iowa; three granddaughters; one grandson, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one sister, Etta Child and one brother, Jerry Bird.
