Albert Lee Dennler
Albert Lee Dennler, 86, Elgin, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. He was born on November 29, 1924, in rural Clayton County, Iowa, to Ben and Louise (Muehlenthaler) Dennler. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1942.
Albert was united in marriage to Ione Torkelson on September 26, 1948, at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Elkader, Iowa. Three daughters were born to this union. He farmed his entire life on the Dennler family farm. He loved riding horses, going on trail rides, reading, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. His Swiss heritage was very important to him. He liked to "scoop the loop" and kept a current journal. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Ione Dennler; three daughters, Kathy (Joel) Gabrielson, Story City, Marcia (Larry) Miles, Elgin, Susan (Dan) Winter, West Union; eight grandchildren, Sherri (Ron) Imoehl, Kristi (Jeff) Shoultz, Stephanie Ward, John Christopher (Jessica) Ward, Joseph Winter, Katelyn Winter, Jeff Gabrielson (fiance, Emmilee), Sara (Shane) Tofteberg; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Brennan and Chase Imoehl, Jillian and Lauren Shoultz; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Dennler, Elgin, Barbara Dennler, Williamsburg; one brother-in-law, Harry Butikofer, West Union and many special nieces and nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rose Butikofer and two brothers, Glenn Dennler and William Dennler.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Illyria Community Church in rural Elgin, Iowa. The Rev. Rick Johnson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Illyria Cemetery in rural Elgin, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at the Illyria Community Church in rural Elgin, Iowa, and one hour before funeral services at the church on Saturday.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
