Funeral services for Ruth Hitch were held Wednesday, June 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville,Iowa. Rev. Richard L. Menzel officiated. Special music was provided by Paul and Marian Schutte. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural West Union, Iowa. Casket bearers were Clarence Bishop, Gary Bishop, Wilson Patterson, George Olesen, Leonard Olson, and Dr. W.E. Tunnell.

Ruth Bryan Hitch, daughter of Benjamin and Lucy (Patterson) Hitch was born March 9, 1895 in Elgin, Iowa. She died Sunday night, June 18, 1989 at her home in West Union, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in Elgin. She graduated from the Elgin schools and attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette. Upon graduation, she was employed in an abstract office in West Union and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was also employed as a housekeeper of the Owens Family in West Union and for the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville for approximately 15 years. She was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church and the East Country Club of West Union.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lorenzo Hitch; a nephew, William B. Hitch and a niece, Wilma Snively. Surviving are a great-nephew, Les Hitch of West Union, who has cared for Ruth for 15 years, and a great-niece, Carolyn Parker of Cincinnati, Ohio.
