Funeral services for Jelena Gunderson were held Monday October 14, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. Kim Peterson officiated. Casket bearers were Bryan Gunderson, Mark Gunderson, Kevin Gunderson, Kermit Gunderson, Steven Gunderson, Bruce Gunderson, Robert Nims, Kim Rothlisberger and Ronald Butikofer. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont.

Jelena Gunderson, daughter of Ole K. and Ingeborg E. (Gulsvig) Olson, was born January 11, 1899 in Marian Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She died October 10, 1985 at Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union, Iowa. She was baptized January 23, 1899 and confirmed July 6, 1913. On February 20, 1919 she married Harry Gunderson. They were the first couple to be married in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. They had three sons. They farmed near Monona, Postville, and Clermont. In 1955 they retired and moved to Clermont.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry, who died October 5, 1981 and three brothers, Cornelius and Edwin and a brother in infancy.

Surviving are three sons, Lyle of Clermont, James of Cedar Rapids,Iowa, and Ronald of Davenport, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a brother, Melvin Olson of West Union, Iowa. She was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the Woodland Study Club.
