LONSON L. BORLAND

In Fayette county, Iowa, Nov. 5, 1855 was born
Lonson I. Borland, the sixth of ten children born to
John H. and Sophia Borland. He was united in
marriage to Clara E. Moody on November 1, 1876.
To the union were born nine children, two girls and
seven boys. He departed this life on May 15, 1928
at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 10 days. He
leaves to mourn his passing a most devoted and
loving wife and five sons, Guy W., Eugene L., Forrest F.,
Glenn A. and Harley B., their wives and eighteen
grandchildren, all of Oelwein, Iowa. The two daughters
having preceded him in death. Mrs. Bessie M. Smith
died April 6, 1914, Mrs. Kathryn P. Shaffer died March 5,
1915. He also leaves three sisters*, Lee R. of Franklin,
Nebraska, Hiram M. of Fairbury, Nebraska and Dr. John H.
of Wyoming. His home was always in Fayette County
whee he watched and helped build it from a prairie to
the beautiful and productive place it is today. He found
happiness in his work. His entire life being devoted to
his family and happy in knowing that his home was their
home always. The welfare of one was the concern of all.
Their devotion to each other being steadfast.

The funeral was held in Oelwein yesterday, conducted
by Dr. Gilbert, a short service at the home followed by a
service at the Ridler Funeral home. The body was taken
to Fayette for burial where a service was also held at the
grave. Those attending from out of town; Lee Borland,
Franklin Nebraska; H. M. Borland, Fairbury, Nebraska;
Carl Borland, Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. Hattie Borland, Spring
Valley, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Boyce, Nevada, Iowa; Mr.
and Mrs. S. L. Schroyer, West Union; Mr. and Mrs. George
Rockdaschel, Sumner, Iowa; Mrs. J. F. Shaffer and Max B.
Shaffer, Fayette, Iowa.
