Henry Fels received a message
Saturday morning informing him of the
death of a nephew, by drowning, in a
small stream near Auburn, this county.
The boy was between six and
seven years of age and, in company
with an older brother, was returning
from school Friday afternoon. When
almost within sight of home they had
to cross a stream which at most seasons
of the year is nothing but a dry
run, but the warm weather of Friday
had caused it to be a swollen stream.
In some way the little fellow broke
through the slush and snow and was
carried downstream and drowned.
Strenuous efforts were made to recover
the body but it was not until Sunday
afternoon that it was found, only
a short distance below where the
drowning occurred. Mr. Fels went
up Monday afternoon to attend the
funeral.
