Emily Hanson Hockings 1869 - 1919

Emily E. Hockings, eldest daughter of Charles and
Eliza E. Hanson was born April 26, 1863, two miles
west of Oelwein, and lived with her parents until
19 years of age when she was united in marriage to
Albert W. Hockings also of Oelwein.
They lived for a number of years on their farm one
mile west of Oelwein when they moved into their
home on Fourth Avenue East.
Two children blessed their union. Mrs. L. J. Peters
who lives in the old home and Mr. John Hockings of
Two Harbors, Minnesota.
She was a loving mother and a faithful wife. She
follows her husband who departed this life six years
ago. From childhood Mrs. Hockings attended the
Baptist Church in which both she and family
worshiped. Her father and mother being among
those who labored to build up this church in our midst.
Her membership is now transferred to the church
triumphant. She fell asleep in Jesus, July 30, 1919, and
is survived by her children and one grandchild and by
her brothers, Ed, Jas., and Ben Hanson and her
sisters, Miss Mary Hanson and Mrs. Gertie Kappes, each
of Oelwein. Many other relatives and friends mourn
with these.
Funeral services were held at the family residence Friday,
2:30 pm conducted by Pastor E. H. Gillet and the remains
were carefully laid to rest.
