WESTGATE — Paul Carl Bartz, 79, died Sunday morning, Oct. 19,
2003, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a lengthy
illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at
St. Peter Lutheran Church, Westgate, with burial in
the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday
at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and
after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Paul was born March 20, 1924, in rural Westgate,
to Otto and Alma (Reinking) Bartz. He married
Mary Ann Ommen on Nov. 4, 1977, at Nashua. He
worked as a tool grinder at John Deere in Waterloo
for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Westgate; one son, Russ
(Dreama) of.Washburn; six daughters, Carol (Marty) Clever of
Westminister, Colo., Alice (Gary) Erickson of Independence, Linda
(Jerry) Niebergall and Diann Metsale, both of Waterloo, Luann Bartz
(Bob) of LaPorte City and Denise Neal of Fort Collins, Colo.; three
stepsons, Steven Strempke of Independence, Darrell Strempke and Rob
(Missy) Strempke, all of Oelwein; one stepdaughter, Holly (Curt)
Kuhse of Elkader; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-
granddaughter; nine step-grandchildren; three step-greatgrandchildren;
one brother, Arnold of Westgate; and two sisters,
Lillian Holtz of Simmer and Lydia Christiansen of Simi Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ester; and a
brother, Otto, Jr.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
