SUMNER — Michael D. Holtz, 59, died Tuesday, Dec. 19,
2006, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis, following
cardiac bypass surgery.
Services: 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 23, St.
John Lutheran Church, Sumner. Military
Rites: Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American
Legion, Sumner. Private family committal
services at a later date.
Visitation: 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, Becker-
Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner; after 10 a.m.
Saturday at church.
Michael Dean Holtz, son of Orville and
Lillian Bartz Holtz, was born May 26,1947, at
Oelwein. He served with the 25th Infantry Division in the
Vietnam War from February 1967 to February 1968. He was
awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Aerial Assault
Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Vietnam Service and
Campaign Medals for his service in Vietnam, achieving the rank
of Staff Sergeant E6. Mike married Jane Ann Ashby on June 22,
1969, at Randalia. They fanned near Westgate until 1971, then
moved to a farm four miles east of Sumner. He was also a salesman
for Pioneer Hi-Bred International for 11 years.
Survivors: his wife, Jane; four sons, Todd (Kathy), Toledo,
Iowa; Scott (Dana), Tucson, Ariz., Chad (Michelle), Waukee, and
Kevin (Stephanie), Sumner; three granddaughters and two grandsons;
his mother, Lillian Holtz, Westgate; one sister, Patricia (Bill)
Rowe, Eagan, Minn.; three brothers, Jerry (Yvonne), Cumming,
Jeff (Heather), Alton, Iowa, and Gene (Carol), Racine, Wis.; and
nine nieces and nephew.
