Mildred E. Begalske, daughter of William and Rena (Ungerer) Fritz, was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Bethel Township of rural Fayette County. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.

She received her education in the rural schools and attended Hawkeye High School.

On Dec. 16, 1937, Mildred was united in marriage with Erwin Begalske. The couple farmed for many years in the Hawkeye area.

She had also been a member of the Banks Study Club.

Preceding Mildred in death were her husband, Erwin, in 1990; a son, Milan, in 1980; four brothers, Alfred, Mervin, Lester, and LeRoy; two sisters, Ella Blume and Wilma Prien; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Rollin (Ardell) Begalske of Cedar Rapids, David (Judy) Begalske of Oelwein, and Arlin (Kathy) Begalske of Sumner; a daughter, Ruth (Allan) Schlatter of Hawkeye; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials may be made in Mildred's name to the Good Samaritan Society-West Union.
