William Lester Pfister 1930 - 2010

William L. Pfister Sr., 79, of Elgin died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society - West Union following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin. The Rev. Rick Johnson officiated.

Burial with military rites took place in the Apostolic Cemetery, rural Elgin.

Arrangements were handled by Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin.

William Lester "Bill" Pfister was born Dec. 2, 1930, in rural Fayette County to Gottfried and Louisa (Schneider) Pfister.

He attended country school.

Bill served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage with Mary Ann Hofer on June 24, 1955, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin. Five children were born to this union.

Bill worked for Hygrade in Postville for 23 years. He also did carpentry work for many years, as well as custodial work at the school.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, gardening, and entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey Pfister; a brother, Harold Pfister; a sister, Helen (Frank) Sturm; and three brothers-in-law, Sam Hofer, Paul Hofer and John Hofer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; four children, Bill (Pam) Pfister Jr. and Rose (Mark) Harberts, both of Elgin, Jeff (Brenda) Pfister of Gunder, and Brenda (Charlie) Feller of McGregor; seven grandchildren, Jill, Amy, Jeremiah, Jenny, Leah, Logan, Chad; four great-grandchildren, Paige, Natalie, Alyssa, Jacob; four sisters-in-law, Audrey Hofer of Randalia, Patience Hofer of Marion, Betty Hofer of Wadena, Shirley Pfister of Elgin; and two brothers-in-law, Ben (Betty) Hofer of Central City and Alfred (Iona) Hofer of State Center.
