Gayle Olson, 74, of Clermont, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

A memorial service will be held at West Lutheran Church in Clermont on Saturday, Oct. 23. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with the memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served following the service.

Gayle (Nickels) Olson was born Aug. 1, 1936, to George and Bernice (Chase) Nickels in Strawberry Point.

She attended and graduated from Elgin High School.

Gayle was united in marriage with Joseph Olson on Nov. 11, 1956, in Elgin.

She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Samson, who died at birth; three brothers, Owen, Everett and Gerald; and a sister, Lois.

Gayle is survived by her husband, Joseph; sons Eric (Karen) of Des Moines and Robert Olson of Clermont; two granddaughters, Alicia and Amy Olson of Des Moines; a sister, Carol Anderson of Castalia; and two brothers, Robert (June) of Mack, Colo., and Merlin of Des Moines.
