Rosemarie Harper 1926 - 2010

Funeral services for Rosemarie Harper, 84, of West Union, Iowa, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union.

Inurnment at Hawkeye Cemetery, Hawkeye, followed the service.

Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union was in charge of arrangements.

Rosemarie died of heart and kidney failure on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union.

Rosemarie (Henn) Harper was born May 6, 1926, near Hawkeye to George and Mary (Stapel) Henn.

The Lutheran Church became her religious home, where she was baptized and confirmed.

Rosemarie grew up on a farm near her birthplace and attended schools in Hawkeye and Arlington. Sports were a big part of her life during her school years and after, as a player as well as a spectator.

After graduating from high school, Rosemarie worked in Waverly, Chicago, and Denver, Colo., where she maintained a home for over 55 years.

While in Denver, she met Joy Harper Jr., whom she married on April 5, 1952. To this union a son, Brian, was born.

While Brian was growing up, Rosemarie worked part-time for the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Postal Service.

After the death of her husband, Joy, on Jan. 2, 1971, Rosemarie continued working until July 1988, when she retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years.

In addition to her husband, Joy, Rosemarie was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clarence, Don, George, Eugene, and Dick Henn; and two sisters, Mabel Gordon, and Marguerite Walther.

She is survived by her son Brian (Kim) Harper of West Union; two granddaughters, Lakisha (Harry) Aller of Des Moines and Jesse Harper of Ankeny; a great-granddaughter, Nadera Aller; two sisters-in-law, Suzanne Henn and Lavon Henn, both of Hawkeye; and a number of nephews and nieces.
