Lorenzo D. Cheney was born at
North Bay, Oneida Co., New York, on
March 3, 1844 and met his death by
accident at Masonville, Iowa, where
he resided on Friday, August 22, 1913.
Fifty-three years ago he came to the
state of Iowa and has been a resident
of this state ever since that date. The
deceased was struck by a through
freight as he started to cross the I. C.
R. R. track near his home. As he
was hard of hearing he was not aware
that the train was approaching and
being thrown some distance was dead
by the time the one that witnessed
the accident reached his side. The
deceased was never married. Of his
four brothers and two sisters, two
brothers and one sister are gone. One
sister is, as fair as known, now living
in Kansas. His brother George lives
near Stanley and William lives at
Independence. The funeral of Mr. Lorenzo
Cheney, a resident of this vicinity
some thirty years ago, was held
Monday morning at ten o'clock In the
M. E. church conducted by Rev. Ross.
His remains were brought here Sunday
from Masonvllle where he had been
making his home.
