HENRY B. CHENEY
Funeral services for Henry B.
Cheney, 48, were held at 2:30 p.m.
at the Methodist Memorial church
in Spring Valley, Minn., with the
Rev. M. McNichol officiating. Burial
was in Spring Valley cemetery.
Henry Baldwin Cheney died Aug.
2 at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester,
Minn., where he had been taken
earlier in the day. He suffered
a heart- attack while on vacation
at Alexandria, Minn., and was
confined to the hospital there before
being brought to his home
earlier in the week.
Henry was born at Oelwein, July
12, 1909, the son of Ruth and Joseph
Cheney. He attended public
school here and graduated from
Oelwein senior high school with
the class of 1929. After graduation
he became associated with various
Oelwein firms, eventually establishing
his own yeast business,
which he operated for several
years. He finally turned to salesmanship
work and auctioneering,
which he followed to the time of
his death. He was a graduate of the
Reisch American School of Auctioneering
at Mason City.
On Nov. 9, 1936, he was united in
marriage to Donna Van Sickle of
Randalia. and to this union two
children were born. In 1931 he and
his family moved from Crawfordsville
to Spring Valley. He represented
the Oelwein Specialty company
as salesman for this territory.
He became affiliated with the
Methodist Memorial church and
served as a trustee. He has been !
active in community affairs, a |
member of the Masonic lodge.
Rochester Shrine Patrol, and the
Eagles Lodge. At the lime of his
death he was serving as associate
patron of the Robert Morris Chapter
41 of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife Donna,
a daughter. Janice, son, Henry jr.,
grandson, Donald Henry Snyder,
his mother, Mrs. Ruth Cheney,
brother, William and a sister Mrs.
Ivan Older, all of Oelwein. Also a
sister, Mrs. R. C. Carrell. Aruba,
Netherlands, West Indies. His father
and one sister preceded him in
death.
Pallbearers were Lee Lease.
Crawfordsville, Dale Wolfe, Oelwein;
William Gernes and Archie
Acherman of Rochester, Minn, and
Kenneth Lundby and Merlin Skaar
of Spring Valley. Graveside services
were conducted by Spring
Valley .Masonic Lodge No. 58.
