Lydia Marie (Reierson) Molokken, the daughter of Ole and Marie (Martie) Reierson, was born November 8, 1932 on a farm in Fayette County, near Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Friday morning, December 1, 2000 at her home in Clermont, Iowa, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her last days were spent with her family and close friends. She had reached the age of 68 years and 23 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. Lydia graduated from the Elgin High School in 1950 and was also a graduate of a school of Cosmetology in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked in various beauty shops in the area, including Carla Rear's Beauty Shop in Clermont.

On June 14, 1960 she was married to Levi Ervin Molokken in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They moved into the house on Larrabee Street where she was presently living. Lydia raised her children along with pursuing her many and varied interests. She planted a large strawbeery bed and was known for her strawberry pies, which she shared with anyone who stopped by her house to visit. Lydia loved to go camping with her family. She loved the outdoors and often went mushroom hunting in the spring and looking for hickory nuts in the fall.

Most of all Lydia loved to have her grandchildren come to visit and to stay with her. They looked forward to the memorable Easter Egg hunts each year, the special things she baked for them, such as the creme de menthe brownies, rhubard desserts, the special bearshaped pancakes, and her Norwegian meatballs.

Lydia cherished her friends, the card clubs she belonged to and the early morning walks before school. The door was always open and the coffee was always on at her house. She made quilts and sewed costumes for the grandchildren, as well as raising and caring for her roses. She loved to bowl and attended many state tournaments.

Lydia worked at the school library for 23 years, first at the Larrabee School in Clermont and then at the Valley School library. She volunteered to help with the reading program even after she retired.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Levi, half-brothers, Alphie Reierson and Orvin Reierson, and half-sisters, Bernice Vick and Gladys Bruckner.

Surviving is her family, Vickie (Kurt) Chicken of Clermont, Lynn (Jeff) Madsen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Judy (Jay) Erb of Waukon, IA, and Helen (George) Johnson of Ossian, IA; nine grandchildren, Jason and Matthew Chicken, Andrew, Kate, and Hannah Madsen, Jennifer and Johnathan Erb, Tammy and Laurie Johnson; four brothers, Glen (Shirley) Reierson and Donald Reierson, all of Elgin, IA, Clarence (Mavis) Reierson of Walker, IA, Robert (May) Reierson of Postville, a sister, Darlene Abel of Belle, MO., her cousin and very special friend, Linda Anderson of Clermont, and many loving nieces and nephews.
