Funeral services for Gary L. Mitchell, 70, of Arlington, Iowa, were held Friday, Sept. 24, at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Paul Fohs officiating.

Interment was in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, was in charge of the arrangements.

Gary's death occurred Monday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2010, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Gary Lee Mitchell was born July 6, 1940, in Oelwein to Irvin H. and Faith Bea (Boynton) Mitchell. He was baptized Aug. 4, 1940, at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington, by the Rev. Ronald E. Braulick.

Gary attended Strawberry Point Community School, where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America.

After his graduation in 1958, Gary continued farming with his brother, Jon, on the family farm west of Strawberry Point.

In 1987, he moved into Arlington with his parents and continued to live there until his parents died.

Gary became a resident of Prairie View Residential Care Facility in January 2003.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Fayette County Pork Producers, Arlington Senior Citizens Housing Board, and Arlington Community Club.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother, Jon (Virginia) Mitchell of Arlington; two uncles; a stepnephew and -niece; and many cousins.

A memorial fund has been established in Gary L. Mitchell's name.
