Funeral services for Helen L. Gunderson, 91, of Clermont, Iowa, formerly of West Union, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. The Rev. Jerome Godson officiated.

Burial followed in the East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery, rural Clermont.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Helen's death occurred Aug. 30, 2010, at Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg.

Born May 8, 1919, in Elgin, Helen Lorraine (Haas) Gunderson was the daughter of Herbert and Helen (Olson) Haas.

She was baptized Dec. 27, 1936, and was a member of Elgin Baptist Church.

Helen graduated from Elgin High School and Pitzi's Beauty School in Waterloo. She operated her beauty shop in Clermont.

On July 2, 1940, Helen married Merril Gunderson. To this union three children were born.

After her marriage she became a member of East Clermont Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and served in offices of the church women.

Her interests included her family and flowers.

The Gundersons moved from the farm in 1991 to West Union after building a new home there.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merril; her infant son, Evan; and her two brothers.

She is survived by her daughters Carol Ann Fromong of West Union and Joan (Paul) Manson of Guttenberg; her grandchildren Sarah and Mark Lee of Decorah, Matt Manson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Melissa Manson of Houston, Texas; her nephew, Steve Haas of Milwaukee, Wis.; and her niece, Teresa Haas of North Carolina.
