Virginia I. Hardman, 79, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of Boone, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Stoney Brook Village in West Union. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont handled the arrangements.

Virginia Irene (Smith) Hardman was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Glascow, Mo., to Ray and Hattie (Kirshman) Smith.

After her graduation from Glascow High School in 1948, she attended nurse's training.

On Dec. 21, 1950, Virginia was united in marriage with George Dennis Shultz. Three children were born to this union.

Virginia was later wed to Calvin Hardman on Feb. 28, 1978. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2005.

Virginia worked as a nurse's aide for a few years.

She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading, gardening and tending to her flowers.

In addition to her husband, Calvin, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Michael Shultz, in 1994.

Survivors include her two children, Mitchell (Beth) Shultz of Pilot Mound and Denise (David) Tinker of Elgin; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, with another on the way very shortly; and a host of other family and friends.
