Funeral services for Kenneth A. Haught, 48, of West Union were held Saturday, Aug. 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa. The Rev. David Grant and the Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson presided.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, handled the arrangements.

Ken's death occurred Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at his home.

Born Sept. 10, 1961, in Chula Vista, Calif., Kenneth Arlo Haught was the son of Arlo and Gwendolyn (Miller) Haught.

He graduated in 1979 from Central Community School in Elkader. In 1983, Ken received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Decorah. He continued his education at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., graduating with a master's degree in 1998.

Ken was wed to Sheri Groth on June 4. 1983, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader.

He began his career in education teaching fifth grade, then eighth-grade computer literacy in Brownsville, Texas.

In 1995, Ken moved his family back to Iowa, where he worked as a computer tech in Wilton. In 1996, he became the dean of discipline in Pine River, Minn. He served as the North Fayette Middle School principal from 1999-2010.

Ken was a member of the School Administrators of Iowa and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sheri, of West Union; three sons, Justin (fiancée Sara Schmitt) of Grundy Center, Brad of Cedar Falls, and Carter of West Union; a daughter, Kaelyn, of West Union; a sister, Theresa (Wesley) Speck of Brownsville, Texas; and three brothers, David Haught of Yankton, S.D., Edward (Wendy) Haught and Michael Haught, both of Brownsville, Texas.
