Clyde D. McFarlane, 84, of Fayette, Iowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 28, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating.

Interment was in the Lima Cemetery, Lima.

S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, Fayette, was in charge of arrangements.

Clyde Duane McFarlane was born Oct. 30, 1925, to James and Polly (Lambert) McFarlane on the family's rural Fayette farm.

He was a graduate of Fayette High School.

On Aug. 22, 1946, Clyde was united in marriage with Thelma Landsgaard at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.

The couple lived and farmed in the Fayette area their entire lives. Clyde retired from farming in the fall of 2008. Clyde had also driven a truck for Heying Firms Inc., West Union, hauling feed and livestock.

He was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant brother, JD McFarlane; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Thelma; five daughters, Linda of Lawton, Okla., Sandra (Brian) Gossman of Ames, Sharon (Kyle) Comer of Lone Tree, Tracy (Dale) Elsbernd of Calmar, and Paula (David) Schott of Clermont; four sons, Dale (Judy) McFarlane and Joy McFarlane of Fayette, Robert (Joyce) McFarlane of Randalia, and Paul McFarlane of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
