Celebration of Life services for Clifford M. Olson, 89, of Fayette, Iowa, were held Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette. The Rev. Keith A. Brustuen presided.
Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Fayette, with military rites conducted by Fayette American Legion Post 339. Casket bearers were Gunnar Olson, Kyle Olson, Joe Paullus, Jason Hoffman, Jeremy Zaabel, and Tyler Olson.
Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Fayette, handled the arrangements.
Clifford's death occurred Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a lengthy battle with leukemia.
Clifford Maurice Olson, son of Henry C. and Clara (Sheppard) Olson, was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Elgin.
He attended rural school in the Postville area and graduated from Postville High School in 1938.
Clifford was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines and Okinawa.
On June 14, 1944, he was united in marriage with Anna Mae Ruroden in West Union. To this union two sons were born. Anna Mae preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1976.
Clifford was then wed to Lois Swalley on Aug. 27, 1983. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2004.
Clifford farmed east of Fayette from 1953 until his retirement in 1995.
A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette, he had been active in the church as an elder.
He was also a member of the Fayette American Legion Post 339.
In addition to his wives, Anna Mae and Lois, Clifford was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allan Olson, who was killed in action in Korea.
Survivors include two sons, Layton (Lynda) Olson of Coralville and Gary (Doris) Olson of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Williams of El Cajon, Calif. and Delores Ross of San Diego, Calif.
