Bertha Anderson

Bertha Anderson, 94, of Elgin died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at 11 a.m., at the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, with the Rev. David R. Nelson officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery. The Leonard Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Bertha (Kirkestue) Anderson was born April 16, 1904, near Ossian, the daughter of Ole and Nelsina (Kloster) Kirkestue. She was raised and educated in the Ossian area.

Bertha was baptized and confirmed at the Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian.

On March 12, 1938, she married Henry Anderson at the East Clermont Lutheran Church parsonage. They farmed in the Elgin/Clermont area for 40 years.

Henry died in 1974. Bertha moved into Elgin in 1978. She was a member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and the ALCW. She also was a member of the Elgin Senior Citizens.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Bertha Anderson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; three brothers, Leonard, Glenn and Benny Kirkestue, and three sisters, Mabel Rose, Odena O'Herran and Ingeborg Wolfe.
