Linus Croatt

Linus Croatt, 83, of St. Lucas, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, with Rev. Marvin Salz officiating.

Music was provided by organist Loraine Kuennen.

The pall was placed on the casket by his two children, and Margaret Wurzer served as lector.

Interment was in St. Lukes Cemetery with Brian, Tom and Greg Drilling, Billy, Jaime and Gerald John Croatt as pallbearers.

Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home in New Hampton handled arrangements.

Linus Croatt was born in St. Lucas Feb. 19, 1918, the son of Victor and Mary (Schmitt) Croatt. He attended school at St. Luke's School in St. Lucas.

On June 9, 1941, he married Leona Huber.

The couple lived and farmed 1/4 miles west of St. Lucas until they moved in St. Lucas in 1971.

He was a licensed insurance agent with his agency, The Linus Croatt Insurance Agency, which he began in 1962 and sold in 1992.

Memberships included St. Luke's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a director for the Farmers Mutual Insurance in Fayette.

In his free time, Linus Croatt enjoyed fishing, cracking walnuts, going out to the farm and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Croatt; one son, Victor and Mary Croatt of St. Lucas; one daughter, Joyce and Loras Drilling of Waucoma; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Nick and Eleanor Croatt of St. Lucas.

Linus Conrad Croatt was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Robert John Croatt in 1971; one brother, John Croatt and two sisters, Rita Martin and Angelin Wenthold.
