Katherine Hoppes, 76, was the
daughter of Chris and Sophie
Jahncke, and was born in Postville
March 16, 1892. She was a member
of the First Christian church,
Oelwein.
On Oct. 31, 1914 she married
John Richard Hoppes at Independence.
During most of her active years,
she farmed with her husband near
Oelwein. When her husband died
on Oct. 3, 1946, she moved to live
with her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy
(Dale) Reid.
Survivors include five children:
Floyd Hoppes, Waterloo;
Mrs. Dale (Dorothy) Reid. Oelwein;
Mrs. Walter (Irene) Stoffrogen,
Waterloo; Mrs. Lester (Pauline)
Fox, Evansdale; Mrs. Albert
(LaVada) Gaede, Sumner; four
brothers: Ed Jahneke, Belleville,
Mich.; Fred Jahneke, Postville; Alvin
Jahneke, Oelwein; Vernie
Jahneke, Webster City; one sister:
Emma Swarts, Fayette;
twelve grandchildren and two
great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, two brothers, and
two sisters, and her husband; also,
one grandchild.
Funeral services were held at
Brant Funeral home in Oelwein
Tuesday, March 18. with Pastor
M. E. Dixon officiating. Burial
was held in Kint cemetery southeast
of Oelwein.
