Chancy A. Pond was born December 1_, 1858,
near Rochelle, Ogle county, Illinois. At the age
of fifteen years he moved with his parents to a
farm in Scott township, Fayette county, Iowa,
2 1/2 miles northeast of Stanley where he lived
until September 25, 1883 when he was united
in marriage to Miss Emma L. Powers of the same
township. Soon after he purchased a farm 3 1/2
miles north of Stanley which has since been
their home. He passed to the great beyond
Thursday, April 20, 1911.
For the past two years he had not been in good
health but the final summons was somewhat
sudden, he having been considered not much
worse than usual until within a few hours of his
passing away. He leaves to mourn their loss, his
wife and six children; Henry of Valier, Montana
and Cady, Myrtle, Hazel, Inez and Neva who live
at home. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Cora
Hoppes of Kansas City, Kan., Mrs. Eva Hillman of
Stanley, Iowa, Mrs. Blanche Adler of Merrimac,
Oklahoma, Mrs. May Swartz of Stanley, Iowa and
one brother, Earl Pond of Jennings, Oklahoma.
The last services which were conducted by Rev.
Foote in the M. E. Church at Stanley, Monday,
April 24, were attended by a large following of
sympathetic friends and neighbors. Interment
in the Stanley cemetery.
