The last services for Gilbert Lincoln,
an aged resident of Scott township, was
held in the Union church at Stanley
Monday afternoon at 1:30. His death
occurred Friday night, March 1, at 9:45
o'clock. He had been ill for the past
seven months from the effects of a par-
alytic stroke, and the end was peaceful,
The watchers could scarcely tell
when the end came.
Gilbert Lincoln was born in Huntingdon-
Shire, England. September 29, 1824,
and was therefore past eighty-two years
of age at the time of his death. He-came
to this country when
a young man, and settled in Ohio,
where he remained till April 1865
when he came to Iowa and located in
Buchanan county. Three years later
be bought the farm two miles and one half
north of Stanley where he lived
for nearly forty years, and where he
passed away.
In May 1856 he was married in Obio,
and his wife survives him. To this
union were born two children, John W.
Lincoln who resides on the home farm,
and who has been unremitting in his
care for his father during the months
of his last illness, and a daughter Mrs-
Bessie Tippy, of Waterloo.
Gilbert Lincoln was well known in
Scott township and surrounding towns,
as he was an old pioneer of this section.
He had a large circle of friends
and acquaintances who respected him,
and the last services at Stanley were
attended by many friends. Interment was
in the Stanley cemetery.
He had been a member of Church of England
in his youth, had not changed his membership.
