Iva Scharnhorst

Iva Scharnhorst, 86, of Hawkeye, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 25, at 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, with the Rev. Troy Pflibsen officiating.

Casket bearers were Bob Fox, Bill Fox, Brad Fox, Kenny Fox, David Fox and Kevin Fox.

Burial was at the Hawkeye Cemetery. The Beckner-Milnes Funeral Home of Hawkeye handled arrangements.

Iva Elizabeth (Bradley) Scharnhorst was born July 15, 1912, at West Union, the daughter of Jem and Emma (Pierce) Bradley. On April 2, 1932, she married William Scharnhorst at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union.

A resident of Hawkeye for many years Iva worked for a time at the local grocery store. Her most recent home had been the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Iva was a member of the Hawkeye American Legion Auxiliary and had served as president of the Second District Legion Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary and the Waucoma Historical Society.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Iva Scharnhorst was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, who died June 5, 1977; four brothers and four sisters, including
Mrs. Dolly Balk of Waucoma.
