MRS. CLARK OLDER
CALLED FROM EARTH
Resident in Fayette Since 1907. She Was One of the Early Teachers In the Fayette School
Ella, daughter of Eli and Sarah Bromley Widger, was born November 9, 1863, in McClain County, Ill. When she was two years old the family came by team and wagon to Iowa. They lived in Smithfield township about a year, when they moved to Albany, where Mr. Widger had a general store.
Mrs. Older started her teaching experience at the age of 16. She taught in rural schools and for a year or two in the primary room in the public school at Fayette. One winter she taught in South Dakota.
At an early age she united with the Methodist church and was a charter member of the Epworth League in this town. Also she was active in the Sunday School as a teacher.
On January 3, 1893, she was united in marriage to Clark Older of Westgate. They lived on a farm near Westgate until 1904, when they moved to Oelwein. In 1907 they moved to Fayette and this has since been their home.
For 5 years Mrs. Older was President of the local W. C. T. U., and was always interested in its work.
For several years she assisted her father write insurance. After his death she continued and recently she had completed a period of 30 years work with the Northwestern National Insurance Co.
No one doubted Mrs. Older's affection for her family, yet when two of her children went to the far corners
of the earth there was no dismal mourning. When her daughter, in the prime of life was called to the Great Beyond she took it with calm fortitude. Mrs. Older was a woman of rare poise through seasons of adversity. She was ever jovial and was always seeking to cheer others.
Her outstanding characteristic was her enduring patience through many years of semi-invalidism.
Not only her children and children's children but others "will rise up and call her blessed."
Two children preceded Mrs. Older in death: Dwight in November, 1904, and Mildred in June, 1932.
There remain of the immediate family to mourn her passing, her husband, Clark W., three children, Velma and Bernice (Mrs. Hackett) of Fayette, and P. Ivan of Oelwein, and six beloved grandchildren, Dale Hackett,
Dorothy Hackett, Roy Hackett, Robert Hackett, Marjorie Hackett, Fayette, and Beverly Older, Oelwein.
The final service was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in the Methodist church, Rev. V. C. Welch In charge. Interment was in Grandview cemetery, Fayette.
