Mr. Nathan Henry Hoppes was born in Harrisburg, Penn.
December 4th, 1846 and died at his home near Hazleton
September 26th, 1921. He came to Plymouth, Ind. at the
age of 10 years where he grew to manhood. He was united
in marriage to Elizabeth Hoppes January 20th, 1875. Seven
children were born to them, five of whom preceded their
parents in death. The children were Rose, Mary, William,
Susan, John and Rilla, the last named two only survive their
parents. Mrs. Hoppes died in 1920 being preceded by her
loved daughter Mary by only nine days. Mr. Hoppes was
converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church
at the age of 20 years holding his relation to that church
until 19 years ago when he withdrew and joined the
Salvation Army at Oelwein. He did hard faithful work striving
to win souls from the darkness of sin on the light of Salvation
in Jesus Christ. For many years he has resided on the same
farm near Hazleton and the universal testimony of his neighbors
is that he was an honest, kind hearted, useful man. He had
been in failing health for several years but he bore his sufferings
with patient trust waiting the final summons. Besides the two
remaining children John and Rilla and a foster son Keith the
deceased leaves one brother Frank Hoppes of Kansas City,
one sister Mrs. James Gilson of Independence and 10 grand-
children. It was his last request that his funeral be conducted
by Rev. H. Foote and from the M. E. Church of Hazleton and
that his body laid to rest beside his loved ones in the
Kint cemetery.
