INDEPENDENCE (Special) —
Services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home chapel at Independence for Melvin Foust 77, a resident of the Rowley since 1929, who died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday at the People’s Memorial Hospital-Extended Care Unit. The Rev. Floyd Conroy, Rowley, officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery at Oelwein.
Born Sept. 14, 1891 at Phillipsburg, Kan., to David and Louise (Boene) Foust, he married Vena A. Helm on Aug. 18, 1915 at Quasqueton.
Foust was a veteran of World War I and a member of Sheeha -Tidball American Legion Post No. 30.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters Mrs. Vic Krob, Rowley; and Mrs. Alice Utterback Altoona, Iowa; three sons Orval, Marion; Orvan “Bud” Sallisaw, Okla., and Delwyn, Waterloo; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Grace Schrimper, Oelwein; and three brothers, Clarence and Bill, both of Quamba, Minn, and Henry, Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter in infancy, three brothers and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers were L. D. Corkery, J. D. Grover, Alvin Brustkern, Perry Sloan, Thomas Mazur and Delbert H. Dingsley.
