Orin J. Young

Orin J. Young, 93, of Lakeland, Fla and formerly of Waterloo and Greene, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m., at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev. Chris Combs-Lay officiating.

Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home of Oelwein handled arrangements.

Orin was born June 14, 1907, at Newton, the son of James W. and Margaret (Allen) Young. He received his education from the Jasper County Public Schools and then attended Iowa State University in Ames for two years,

He married Violet Tatro of Oelwein. Orin lived in Waterloo for many years, employed as a machinist at John Deere Co., Wonder Bread and Repasse Machine. He retired from Viking Pump in Cedar Falls.

Orin also farmed in Butler County, southeast of Greene. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Lakeland, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Violet of Lakeland, Fla.; two sons, A. K. Young of LaGarto, Texas, and Ronald Young of Marshalltown; one daughter, Charlene Young Doyle of Grinnell; two grandchildren; and one sister, Elma Young of Marshalltown.

Orin Young was preceded in death by his parents.
