Selma Koester, 95, of Eldorado, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Ossian Senior Hospice.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, with Rev. Dennis Hugdahl officiating.

Organist was Richard Vagts, and special music was provided by Rev. Dennis Hugdahl.

Pallbearers were Michael Koester, Charles Shipton, Kenneth R. Koester, II, Kenneth Vagts, Gerald Vagts, and Kenneth R. Koester, Sr.

Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Koester and Carl E. Wagner, Jr.

Interment was at St. Peter Cemetery in Eldorado, with Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian handling arrangements.

Selma Anna Koester was born in rural Dover Township, Fayette County, to John and Elizabeth (Wolfe) Koester on Jan. 11, 1905.

She was baptized on Feb. 16, 1905, and confirmed on April 13, 1919, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.

Selma Koester received her education at Dover #2 Eldorado School.

She never married.

As a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, she contributed many hours as a member of the St. Peter WELCA organization, quilting for missions and working for numerous church functions. She served as Sunday School secretary/treasurer for 45 years.

She was employed both in Eldorado and West Union at Traeger's Grocery Store through the years.

Selma Koester was an avid quilter and enjoyed flowers.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Frances Koester of West Union; two nephews, Kenneth R. Koester, Sr. and Carolyn Koester of West Union; and Richard Koester of West Union; two great-nephews, Kenneth R. Koester, II and Kim Koester of Fredericksburg; Michael C. and Phyllis Koester of West Union; and four great-great nephews: Brett Koester, Joshua Koester, and Asher Koester, all of Fredericksburg, and Preston Koester of West Union, and one great-great niece, Mariah Koester of West Union.

Selma Anna Koester was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Charlie Koester, on May 20, 1996.
