Darrel A. DeVolt, 50, of Independence, Iowa, was found dead at his home on Monday, July 5, 2010.
A memorial gathering and sharing of memories will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Inurnment will be in Stanley Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Darrel is survived by his sister Ruth Frances Schott of West Union; a stepbrother Rick (Lisa) Crotts of Urbandale; his stepfather Frank Crotts of Curlew; two nieces and two great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father Dale Arthur DeVolt, his mother Luanne Ruth Hundley DeVolt Crotts, and an uncle Jim Hundley.

Darrel Arthur DeVolt was born May 24, 1960 at Oelwein, the son of Dale Arthur and Luanne Ruth (Hundley) DeVolt. He graduated from Oelwein Community High School in 1978. Darrel was a mechanic and was currently working at West Edge Auto Salvage in Independence.
