Penny J. Taylor, 45, of Milton, Fla., died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, at Avalon Baptist Church in Milton. Burial was at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Penny Jean (Brooks) Taylor was born Sept. 14, 1964, at NAS Pensacola, Fla., to Jon and Linda (Wickham) Brooks.

She attended kindergarten through second grade at West Union Elementary before the family moved to Virginia Beach, Va., where Penny graduated from 1st Colonial High School and Virginia Beach Junior College. She worked at KinderCare in Virginia Beach.

Penny was a 1987 graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. She then taught elementary school in Guam before moving to Milton, Fla., with her family.

She was director of KidStuff in Milton prior to her marriage to John Taylor on May 4, 1996.

In the past two years Penny was employed by East Milton Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband, John Taylor; a son, Robert Taylor; her parents, Jon and Linda Brooks of Milton, Fla.; her grandmother, Ruth Brooks of West Union; two brothers, Joseph (Hope) Brooks of Spanish Fort, Ala., and Paul Brooks of Milton, Fla.; aunts and uncles; five nieces; a nephew; and many other relatives.
