Monika J. Roepke, 49, of Hazleton, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, July 6, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Inurnment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before services at the church Friday. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Monika Jenaudia Stefanovic was born Aug. 18, 1960 at Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Djura Luka and Karoline (Rink) Stefanovic. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1978. Monika married Kent Warnke in June of 1978 and four children were born to this union, Anthony, Karla, Nicole and Cody. They later divorced. Monika married Robert August Roepke on Feb. 10, 1996 at Oelwein, and Robert's three children completed Monika's family. Monika worked at Wal-Mart for more than 22 years including the past 14 years in Independence. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Monika was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was never happier than when she was sharing her love of simple pleasures with her family and friends such as drowning a worm, tending her garden and flowers or cooking and baking.
Monika is survived by her husband Robert Roepke of Hazleton; six children, Karla Warnke of Waterloo, Nicole Warnke of Ypsilanti, Mich., Cody (Tasha) Warnke of Charles City, Kimberly Zemmahi of Waterloo, Dean (Alecia) Roepke of Denver and Bradly Roepke of Denver; four grandbabies, Taylor, Hailee, Jackson and Brooklyn Warnke; five sisters, Ingeborg (Leonard) Brezina of Amana, Krsmanjia (Gene) Craig of Mason City, Peladija (Hank) Woodson-Diers of Hazleton, Angelina Stefanovic of Clear Lake and Sonija (Richard) Wessels of Eldorado; a brother-in-law James Folsom of Oelwein and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Anthony Warnke; two sisters, Anneliese Brase and Dobrina Folsom; a brother Kosta Stefanovic; and a brother-in-law Jackie Woodson.
