Corrine Muriel Landsgard 1928-2010

Corrine M. Landsgard, 81, of St. Olaf, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis., following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. The Rev. Marshall Hahn officiated.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Corrine Muriel (Rypestol) Landsgard was born July 14, 1928, in West Union to Marcus and Christine (Wettleson) Rypestol.

She was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church, of which she was a lifetime member.

Corrine graduated from Postville High School in Postville and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Decorah.

She worked for a lawyer in Manchester for three years and then at Torkelson Motors in Elgin for six years. Corrine then taught at Valley Community Schools until 1971.

On July 10, 1971, she was united in marriage with Orlan Landsgard at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder.

They were the proud foster parents of Elwin Dirksen.

The Marion Lutheran Church congregation recognized Corrine as its organist for over 55 years, and she was a lifelong member of the choir. She was very active in WELCA and was the Thrivent representative for the church.

Corrine enjoyed rosemaling and was a member of the Nisse Rosemalers. She was also a volunteer at Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum.

A member of the Home Garden Club, Corrine's passions included genealogy, Gunder history, gardening and cooking.

She enjoyed traveling with Orlan and spending time with Elwin, Laurie and the grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending family reunions and spending time with her extended family and many friends.

Corrine was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Orlan Landsgard of St. Olaf; her foster son, Elwin (Laurie) Dirksen of Elgin; grandchildren Amanda Dirksen (fiancé Jon Bredeweg) of West Union, Andrew Dirksen (fiancée Alaina Thompson) of Hawkeye, and Aaron Dirksen of West Union; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Dirksen; and a host of other family members and friends.

Memorials in Corrine Landsgard's name may be directed to the Marion Lutheran Church roofing fund.
