John Hancock was born in Fayette county, Iowa,
April 15, 1856 and died October 20, 1930. He
was the son of Axil and Margaret Hancock who
came from Kentucky at an early date. In 1878 he
was united in marriage with Emma Moore who died
many years ago. To this union were born three
children, Henry Hancock of of Davenport, Iowa;
Oris Hancock of Newcomertown, Ohio and Mrs. Lou
Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. September 1896 he
was again married to Mrs. A. Lahner who preceded
him in death six years ago. Since that time he
had made his home with relatives and for the past
year has been in poor health. He was a kind man
and good neighbor and will be missed by his
relatives and friends. Funeral services were
held from Gerstenberger's undertaking parlors
Tuesday afternoon, October 21, conducted by Rev.
James Wray of the Presbyterian church.
