James Cannon and wife were inexpressably shocked last Saturday morning by a very sudden and unexpected death in the family -- Mrs. Cannon's mother, who was living with them. When Mrs. Cannon arose to prepare the morning meal she exchanged a few words with her mother, who made no mention of feeling at all unwell. When breakfast was ready, Mrs. Cannon went into the room to call her mother and found her dead, her spirit seemingly having departed without a struggle. Some form of heart trouble is supposed to have been the cause of death.

"Grandma is cold this morning" were the words that greeted Mrs. James Cannon, of Oelwein, as her child came into breakfast last Saturday morning. She hastened to the room occupied by her mother, Mrs. Bridget Everett, and the grandchild, and found that the words were only too true, for the good old lady was cold in death. Mrs. Cannon had arisen about five o'clock and found her mother sleeping, and, having been up late the previous, returned to bed. She arose about eight o'clock and was getting the morning meal when the startling words of the little child called her to the bedside of her dead mother. The deceased was seventy-eight years of age. The funeral occurred Monday from the Catholic church in Fairbank.
