One More Old Soldier Gone Home, Hiram D. Miller

Hiram D., the only son of Adam and Lovina Miller was born near Canton, Stark County, Ohio, on the 7th day of February 1843, and departed this life on May 21st 1926, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 13 days.

At the age of 18 years he enlisted in Company F, 65 Ohio Infantry. In the Civil war, was discharged the 14th day of December 1864, serving 3 years, 2 months and 2 days. He came to Iowa in February 1865, and was married to Soloma L. Adams, December 24th 1866. Thirteen children were born to this union, six having preceeded him in death. In 1896 he moved to Arkansas, where his wife passed away on June 17th, 1896. His mother passed away when he was only 2 years of age, and his father died while he was in the army. He was converted and united with the Baptist church at Fairbank, Ia., 53 years ago. On May 24, 1892, he became a member of the Latter Day Saints Church, and was a firm believer in the teachings of Christ. On December 15, 1912 he was united in marriage to Mrs. C. J. Sanborn, who with 7 children are left to mourn: S. W. Miller of Lamar, Colo., A. L., Jesse D., Griffith F., of Oelwein; Harry E., Delbert G., of Fairbank; Sylvia M. Westondorf of Westgate, Ia.

He has been a patient sufferer since the 13th of Nov. 1925. But thro. all his suffering he never lost faith in his Savior.

The funeral was held from the home of his son Jesse D. Miller, 121 1st Ave. East, then proceeded to the Baptist church at Fairbank where the services were held.

The services were conducted by Rev. Houghton of Savanna, Ml.(?), assisted by the pastor of Fairbank Baptist church. Interment was made in the Fairbank cemetery. A military funeral was conducted under the auspices of the G. A. R. and American Legion and the W. R. C.
