Obituary - Oran M. DeWald

Oran M. DeWald, son of Milton and Lucinda DeWald, was born in July 1899, on a farm six miles west of Oelwein, in Fayette county, Iowa. He died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 1941 at the age of 41 years, six weeks.

Following the death of his father in 1908, Oran, with his mother and sisters, moved to Fairbank, Iowa, where he attended public school. In 1919 he came to Oelwein to work for the Chicago Great Western railroad, where he was employed until his death.

On October 4, 1924, he was united in marriage to Ruth Oliphant of Independent (sic), Iowa.

He was an active member of B. A. R. E. B. of R. C. E. M. B. A., and Railway Clerks.

He was preceded in death by his father in February, 1908, by his mother, who died December 17, 1939, and by one brother, James.

He is survived by three brothers: Amos DeWald, Staples, Minnesota; Archie DeWald, Fairbank, Iowa; and John Dewald of Wadena, Iowa; and by five sisters: Mrs. L. W. Bennet, Mrs. C. D. Ellis and Mrs. C. L. Cummings, all of Masonville, Iowa, and Mrs. Frank Ostrum, Algona, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 8, from the Brant Funeral Home in Oelwein, following prayer services at the home in Oelwein. Reverend Henry Gordon officiated at the services. Interment was made at the cemetery in Fairbank, Iowa.

Oran was well-known and was liked for his genial disposition and kindliness. He led a Christian life and was a devoted husband and son.
